Maybe your pain can be addressed with psychotherapy

Take this short quiz to assess if you need psychotherapy.
  1. Did your pain start during a time of stress?
  2. Have you noticed a relationship between your pain and your feelings?
  3. Do your symptoms seem worse during times of stress?
  4. Do your symptoms improve when away from home or distracted?
  5. Have others told you that nothing can be done surgically?
  6. Have you tried different treatments? Each only brought temporary or limited relief.
  7. Did your pain originate without injury? Or is 6 months after an injury?
  8. Have your symptoms been inconsistent or come and go?
  9. Does the pain ever move to another location in your body?
  10. Do you have triggers that seem to have nothing to do with your body?
  11. Is your pain on both side of the body in a symmetrical manner?
  12. Do you have 3-4 unrelated illnesses? These might include hives, eczema, or rashes from tension. Also IBS, reflux, or heartburn. Tension headaches, migraines, unexplained prostate or pelvic pain, teeth grinding, and plantar warts.
  13. Are you hard on yourself? Are you highly responsible for others? Consider yourself a perfectionist?
  14. Are you conscientious or people pleasing? Are you reactive to stress?
  15. Do you spend much time during the day thinking about your pain? Do you worry and obsess over its cause?
  16. Have you tried different treatments? Each of which only brought temporary or limited relief.
